Admissions Executive Committee News
By: Dr. Demondes Haynes
The School of Medicine (SOM) Admissions Executive Committee (AEC) recently held its annual retreat. In addition to reviewing policies and practices, the committee held celebrations. The committee thanked outgoing members Dr. Mary Anne Kosek and Dr. Eddie Perkins.
Dr. Kosek is professor of Pediatrics in the division of Neonatology. She has served 13 years on the AEC. Dr. Perkins is Professor of Neurosurgery. He served four years on the SOM File Review Committee (FRC) before joining the AEC where he has served for nine years. The amount of time, dedication, careful review, and thoughtful consideration these two have provided is immensely appreciated. Their contribution to the work the AEC does has made our SOM and our students better.
The AEC welcomed four new members who are excited to begin their terms on July 1, 2025. They are Dr. Barbara Craft, Dr. Seema Singh, Dr. James Martin (Marty) Tucker, and Dr. Nathan Tullos.
Dr. Craft is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology. She has served on the Admissions Interview Committee (AIC). Dr. Seema Singh is tenured Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology and Associate Director of Education and Training at the Cancer Center and Research Institute. She has been at the institution for a short period of time, but has served on the FRC and AIC. Dr. Tucker is Professor and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has served on both the FRC and AIC. Dr. Nathan Tullos is Associate Professor in the Department of Advanced Biomedical Education. He has served on the FRC.
Membership to Admissions Executive Committee is available to any SOM faculty members who can self-nominate or be nominated by their department chair. However, AEC membership requires prior service on either the FRC or AIC.
